چکیده

It was recently shown [19] that satisfiability is polynomially solvable when the incidence graph is an interval bipartite graph (an interval graph turned into a bipartite graph by omitting all edges within each partite set). Here we relax this condition in several directions: First, we show an FPT algorithm parameterized by k for k-interval bigraphs, bipartite graphs which can be converted to interval bipartite graphs by adding to each node of one side at most k edges; the same result holds for the counting and the weighted maximization version of satisfiability. Second, given two linear orders, one for the variables and one for the clauses, we show how to find, in polynomial time, the smallest k such that there is a k-interval bigraph compatible with these two orders. On the negative side we prove that, barring complexity collapses, no such extensions are possible for CSPs more general than satisfiability. We also show NP-hardness of recognizing 1-interval bigraphs. 1998 ACM Subject Classification F.2.2 Nonnumerical Algorithms and Problems

A New Compromise Decision-making Model based on TOPSIS and VIKOR for Solving Multi-objective Large-scale Programming Problems with a Block Angular Structure under Uncertainty

This paper proposes a compromise model, based on a new method, to solve the multi-objective large-scale linear programming (MOLSLP) problems with block angular structure involving fuzzy parameters. The problem involves fuzzy parameters in the objective functions and constraints. In this compromise programming method, two concepts are considered simultaneously. First of them is that the optimal ...

To Encode or Not to Encode - Linear Planning

Stochastic local search (SLS) techniques are very effective in solving hard propositional satisfiability problems. This has lead to the popularity of the encode & solve paradigm in which different problems are encoded as propositional satisfiability problems to which SLS techniques are applied. In AI, planning is the main area in which this methodology is used. Yet, it seems plausible that SLS ...

Faster Probabilistic Planning through More Efficient Stochastic Satisfiability Problem Encodings

The propositional contingent planner ZANDER solves finitehorizon, partially observable, probabilistic planning problems at state-of-the-art-speeds by converting the planning problem to a stochastic satisfiability (SSAT) problem and solving that problem instead (Majercik 2000). ZANDER obtains these results using a relatively inefficient SSAT encoding of the problem (a linear action encoding with...
